I love the challenge of working with recycled materials. To me, trying to find new uses for recycled items fuels the imagination much more than working with the pre-cut materials out of the box. I maintain a studio of random recyclable items, and my creations are purely subject to my whims. One week it might be tote bags from upholstery book fabric, and the next week it might be skirts from wacky T-shirts a friend donated to my stash. I've been known to unravel thrift store sweaters and re-wind the resulting yarn with a hand mixer to make OOAK skeins.
With so many people wearing the exact same thing, I like my clothing and accessories to have a bit of fun and uniqueness to them. A lot of pieces were created for myself when I couldn't find what I wanted in a store, or commissioned by friends.
My husband and I jointly run GeekInTheCity.com, a website dedicated to pop culture rambling and rants with a helping of usable information on movies, games, music, and all things geeky. I am slowly in the process of launching a handcrafted line of merchandise affiliated with our site. I also sell my own line under the name Illusionaire Design. My gallery of craftiness can be found at http://www.illusionaire.com.
