FreyjaGlasswear's Profile

Bio

I am thrilled to now be able to devote myself full time to designing and selling jewelry, after recently retiring from 23 years in the catering business. I am passionate about everything to do with jewelry design, from searching for the perfect beads and findings to creating the pieces.

I’m extremely fortunate to collaborate with my son Nathan for Freyja Glasswear. As a talented glass artist/flameworker of 8 years, Nathan makes all of the borosilicate beads, pendants, medallions, and cabochons used in the creation of our jewelry.

Nathan works in borosilicate glass which is more than twice as strong as regular soda lime glass. He enjoys the range of “play” in many of the polychromatic colors available in the borosilicate palette. By varying the torch setting and the annealing times, an endless range of rich, organic colors can be achieved.

As a jewelry designer I first draw my inspiration from the flameworked beads. I then choose the finishing beads and components for the design to compliment and enhance the boro glass colour palette. I design each piece of jewelry with passion and enjoyment, often visualising the end customer wearing it with as much pleasure as I’ve had in creating it.

The things I LOVE to use in my jewelry designs: brass or copper filigree, any kind of copper bead or finding, Bali sterling silver-an amazing artisan creation in it's own right, Swarovski crystals!, freshwater pearls, gemstones, Czech firepolished beads-especially any with a bronze or copper hue. Dragonflies, butterflies, Celtic, and Chinese themed findings.

I also really enjoy being part of the Etsy community. What a wonderful and exciting way to market our work!
