Thanks for visiting my shop!

The past few months have brought about a number of changes to my business. I had an intensive semester of learning, in the classroom, and on my own. I took a few graphic design classes, as well as read a bunch of books on more advanced polymer clay techniques and digital photography. I have been working very hard to bring my jewerly line to a new standard, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Two of my favorite things to do in my free time are go to local punk shows, and go shopping for vintage clothes. My jewelry is now designed with two major collections - Punk Rock Collection and the Vintage Couture Collection (formerly called Feminine and Floral). I was very excited with Carrie's outfits in the new Sex and the City movie - they reminded me so much of my jewelry line - the fusion of feminine vintage style with a punk edge!

The Punk Collection is fun, colorful, and kitchy; with influences from 1970s and 1980s punk fashion. Many of my classic styles are featured in the Punk Collection.

The Vintage Couture Collection is detailed and feminine in styling. It features genuine Swarovski crystals in each piece, and vintage inspired findings. Each flower is hand sculpted, and a lot of detail work is put into each piece. This collection features fantastic vintage inspired findings, and gorgeous fire polished glass and Swarovski beads.

Urban Construction was originally started with the goal to create one of a kind pieces, using recycled materials as much as possible. While not all items are made from recycled materials, I do try to use vintage/recycled materials whenever inspiration strikes. The focus has now transitioned to primarily the use of hand sculpted jewelry made out of polymer clay. I also use recycled materials in the packing materials.

Urban Construction was actually started as a school project during one of my Fashion Merchandising classes. Our term project was to come up with a concept for a line, design the styles, and create the concept for the company as a whole. I was living in Hollywood at the time, and was inspired by all of the renovations the city was undergoing. I knew that I wanted to take vintage pieces that I salvaged to help make an effort to reduce the huge amount of textile waste each year. I loved the way that the city was taking the old Hollywood that had become run down and neglected over the years, and turning it into a new glimmering city with a hip new style. From there, fueled by a late night of sketching and caffeine, I came up with the name Urban Construction and the company concept.
