Growing up we would visit Gramdma's house every summer! She was always making something, flowers from this really sticky stuff, the smell will always stay with me! She had a can of buttons and I would sort them every time, the different shapes and sizes would keep me in a trance for hours and out of her way too! Once in awhile she would let me sit at her Vintage dressing table and pull out all of her Costume Jewely. I would try it on, touch it, watch it glissen in the light and I fell in love with it... Grandma passed and so did her jewelry, not to me. Very sad at the time over that and so I started collecting it at yard sales and Antique shops. I believe she passed her love for crafts and creating to me as I have always loved to sew or paint. Whatever the popular craft was at the time, I was doing it.
As I got older I started making candles, I worked on them until I made the best ones around. People still ask for them and I still make them in the Fall when it's cooler.
About 6 years ago a strand of broken vintage beads caught my eye at my Mom's, and every since I have been totally consumed with beads. If you could see our Sunroom you would be shocked, of course I would have to move something for you to have a seat or you could just stand and watch TV if you don't mind....and since this has really gotten out of hand I have decided to share some of my "stash" with you all as well as my designed pieces. I have just about every type of gemstone, some Czech beads, Bali Silver and Swarovski Crystals that I have hidden everywhere....I don't mind sharing with my nieces but my Crystals are my true love when it comes to beads. So bare with me as I sort and gather and decide what little beauties I can part with...
A little more about me...In December 2006, 3 days before Christmas with a house full of 15 family members staying through the New Year, I found out I had breast cancer. It was tough trying to enjoy the family and the holiday but I made it and my surgery was on January 30 where the removed both breasts and reconstructed them at the same time. My beading took a new direction, Breast Cancer Awareness, along with my other designs and I started donating to "Find a Cure", the 2-day walk and Susan G Komen Foundation. Life has had many turns as it does for all of us, please make sure you get your mamogram and tell your loved ones as well, it does save lives, I am a Survivor! Life is precious even with it's constant change, it's ups and downs, find the good, find the GREAT, find what makes you happy! Designing Jewelry makes me HAPPY! Seeing others wearing my designs brings me JOY, so find yours and take care of you! Auggie Queen-Parker
