I always have to be creative. When I'm not, I feel out of place in the world and very uncomfortable. I probably get this from my father, a full-time, internationally renowned artist who is always creating.
I find being creative to be a sort of therapy. I work with mentally ill children during the day, traveling to their homes and school to provide services such as teaching coping skills, learning to focus attention, proper social interactions, and so on. Though I love my job and I can't wait to get out the door in the morning, it is VERY stressful; at times, I can't believe the things I see, or the violence committed against these kids. When I come home, I need to unwind and let everything go, so I often sit with my supplies and make things. It eases my mind and focuses me on creation.
In my eyes, creation is a positive concept, and an act of not only self-acceptance (accepting that I am a being in the world capable of creating and adding to the world), but also an appreciation for the world itself (I am capable of creation, and I share it with others to enjoy...via Etsy, of course!).
