Bio
I have been involved in the world of needle arts, for as long as I can remember. My passion for needle and thread began at age five when I learned to knit. From there I progressed to dressmaking, crochet, needlepoint, crewel, weaving, quilting, and counted cross stitch. I was lucky enough that the high school I went to had a fabulous arts program and was exposed to some of the harder arts; metal embossing, enameling, clay, etc.
Along this journey, I have been blessed to have been able to share, with many people; some mentors, some students, some just friends with a common interest.
I have had several chapters of my life in which beading was a factor, but I became a serious beadweaver, about three years ago. All of the skills that I have learned over the years suddenly came together in one place and time. Partly responsible for this, was the fact that I stumbled onto Lush Beads, in downtown Lowell, MA. This bead store is owned by Liz Stewart, who has since become a close friend and mentor. I worked in the store for a little over two years. There I taught and Liz is kind enough to let me sell my beading through the store. It was with sadness that I left to move to Arizona - had to get away from the snow.
I am self taught and prefer complicated beadweaving projects that take time to finish. I am facinated with the glass, color and designs that can be achieved using simple materials. Since I am self taught and don't duplicate other's designs, I am able to say that my work is uniquely my own. I am also very particular about my work. If I don't think the piece is perfect enough - it will be redone or scrapped. I would be happy to create a unique piece for you. If you see something you like in my store, don't be afraid to ask for a different color, clasp, or ear finding. I'm easy.
Recently I wrote, and Liz and I published, a beading workbook titled " Undulating Waves." This is a pattern book of peyote stitch designs that came about because my students requested it. The book was released on May 5, 2007, at Lush Beads' third anniversary party. Liz did all of the photos for the book.
I am so excited about the increasing emphasis on art in this country. I am old enough to remember when the art world, especially relating to art supplies, was very limited. The increasing availability of materials, and the synergy created by their use, is opening up new worlds to explore, almost daily. I am so grateful to be here right now! Hope you like my work as much as I love creating it.
