NEW INFO ON CPSIA AND SHOP CLOSING: The CPSC has called for a one year say of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). What this means is that the CPSC will not be enforcing the act until Feb. 10, 2010. Confused? So are many of your favorite Etsians. Exemptions have been made for fabrics ("textiles") wood and other natural products. Senator DeMint of South Carolina has proposed a bill to ammend the CPSIA, calling for component testing rather than requiring cottage industries to test final product. However the fight is not over. If you value buying handmade, please write to your congresspersons, your local news media, and to the Consumer Product Safety Commission expressing your concerns of losing valuable handmade products and the failure of countless artisans. Thank you.
