Bio

I love color! For me, that's what its all about.
For more information about my fiber arts visit my Blog at http://www.scarlet-zebra.com :o)

I am an artist that works mostly in fiber: surface designer, art quilter, dyer, knitter, weaver, and spinner. Experimenter probably covers it best! After all, this is Scarlet Zebra Wild Arts. According to Webster; "Wild, adj. 1. existing in a natural state: not cultivated or domesticated. 2. lacking discipline, unruly. 3. filled with or indicating intense, uncontrolled emotion."
That about covers it ;o)

I dye on a variety of fibers, weights of yarn, and fabrics as that is what I use in my finished works. I'm spoiled (OK, I'm a fiber snob) so my yarns and fabrics are the best quality. All of my dyeing is done with a vague idea of a project in mind. The hard truth is, I can dye faster than I can sew/weave/knit/spin/quilt, etc. So, I have put many of the yarns and fabrics that I dye here. I hope they speak to you as colorfully and inspiringly (is that a word?) as they speak to me! I use only professional dyes: acid on protein fibers and MX on cellulose as this will give the finished items the longest color life. I've been dyeing and teaching dyeing for years, that does not mean I'm disciplined, nor am I a "formula" dyer ;o) I confess to being a bit of an adventurous colorist and therefore each dyed item is unique and unrepeatable.

You will occasionally see items for sale that were made by my wonderful hubby, who primarily works in glass or wood. Also, you may find an item from my sister-in-law, who has some physical challenges and not up to stocking her own shop. You may even find an item made by my daughter but she has her own Etsy Shop at guidingstar.etsy.com, she rarely has items for sale but her dry wit is worth the visit. All items made by Jack (DH), Ashland (DD), or Lynda (SIL), will be clearly marked.

I grew up in Seattle but have moved around the country a wee bit and currently live in Michigan. I hope to retire back in the Pacific Northwest at some point; I miss the ocean and the mountains!

I’m married to a wonderful engineer and glass artist with a fabulous daughter who is also a playwright. Life is good!

Occasionally you will also see other items for sale here too; finished fiber art, glass work, jewelry, etc.

Sorry, no commissions.
