Bio

Hi, I'm Erin Joan. Welcome to my shop!

I design and make quilts, soft furnishings, home decor and a variety of bags for the eccentric woman of any age. My work represents my appreciation for the everyday things that make us feel good about ourselves - our talents, our favorites, our interests, our habits – the things that make us interesting! I encourage the idea of accessorizing and decorating ourselves and our worlds with things that represent our eccentricities, that make us smile, that make an occasion special, that give us something to look forward to. So, I design with this goal in mind, to create something for you that will represent the things about life that you love!

To achieve this goal and to practice some of my favorite things I use techniques such as embroidery, appliqué and patchwork. I sew and quilt by hand and machine. I use some of my favorite fabrics such as chintz, calico, denim and corduroy. I love color! I also like to pair images, fabrics or ideas that don't normally go together like skulls and dainty flowers, denim and lace, traditional and quirky. One of my favorite design tactics is to collect images of my random experiences – blowing bubbles, playing guitar, a steaming teapot - draw them as a silhouette, and then appliqué or embroider them to one of my projects such as a pillow or bag. I want my work to make you laugh, smile or just feel good. My accessories are the perfect addition to your laid back, playful atmosphere and they're all carefully and specially handmade.

Please take a look around and don't hesitate to write me with any questions or comments. I'd love to hear from you! Thank you for stopping by.

A little history...

My Mom and my Grandma Joan were both seamstresses making many of their own clothes and mine. I started sewing when I was 18. My Mom walked me through my first couple of projects and she's been a great help and support ever since. I've learned the most though just by trying, reading books, watching videos on youtube, and sharing tips, techniques and ideas at the local fabric stores and craft fairs. With that being said, I’ve spent countless hours - weekends and late nights while my friends were out on the town, in between full time jobs and taking classes - practicing my craft and bringing my creations to life. Using my imagination and the skills I’ve learned to create something from scratch brings me great satisfaction and to be able to share it with you through a great outlet such as Etsy makes it even more special. I've learned so much about myself through exploring the art and history of sewing. Learning to sew is a journey I plan to continue on for many years to come.
