Please see my individual textile pieces for information on them. I welcome commissions!
My jewelry is all of my own design and made by hand, by me. I never make the same design twice, so you are guaranteed a one-of-a-kind work of art you won't see on anyone else. I strive for the highest level of workmanship possible and I back my work with free repairs on normal wear and tear, including shipping one way, for the life of the piece. I do reserve the right to determine "normal" wear, but I am eminently fair and generous.
I very much welcome feedback on the wearability and durability of my designs. I test them before making them available for sale, but every lifestyle is different, and people are differently-abled. As a disabled artist, I am always looking for ways to make my artwork easy to wear for those with limited mobility and/or sensitivity to materials.
Most articles can be lengthened or shortened, and earring posts or lever-backs can be substituted for French wires in most cases. My earrings are shown with sterling (.925) silver or surgical stainless French wires, unless otherwise noted. I keep on hand copper, sterling silver, and gold-filled earwires and can usually substitute them, for sensitive wearers; keep in mind, however, that I work almost exclusively in silver, and gold sometimes will look very different. If I feel that substituting gold findings will ruin the aesthetics of the piece, I will let you know, but will ultimately honor you--the customer--and your needs and make the modification if you still so desire.
I welcome custom orders and commissions! I have an enormous selection of components on hand, and would love to design a piece, within the range of my abilities as an artisan, to match your wardrobe or to show off your style.
I am still in the process of building a website. For now, all my work is sold on Etsy. Photos of my digital images, drawings, and straight-up photography are in the process of being migrated to my new Heron Moon Designworks Flickr account, and can be viewed at http://www.flickr.com/photos/heronmoondesignworks/ and also, until the migration is finished, at my older Flickr page, http://www.flickr.com/photos/kiter-s_timespacerealityimaginationcontinuum/.
My education and training: Bachelor's of Art in Art from University of Alabama, 1987, with honors. Focus in printmaking and photography with special interest in sculpture, minor in Art History. Since graduation, areas of interest have included graphic design, art quilts, textile surface design, woodworking, digital and manipulated photography, three-dimensional digital design and animation, watercolor and acrylics, jewelry design, polymer clay, metal fabrication, and others. Worked chiefly as a carpenter and painter, and for an art museum, where I mounted exhibitions and performed photography duties for documentation, curation, and promotion purposes, using 35mm and medium-format cameras and an in-house darkroom. Freelance writer for arts and entertainment magazines in the 1980s. Permanently disabled in 1999, now working as much as I'm able. Established Heron Moon Designworks, with CA resale permit, in 2006, with partner.
I'm 49, female, with dog, cat, reptile, and botanical--but no biological--children. I'm passionate about the environment, human rights, ethical animal (and plant) stewardship, local and global community, laughter, and fun. I'm unfortunately quite isolated, living out in the country, for the last year, and very much welcome new friends and networking.
