Bio

Welcome to DAH Ceramics.

ABOUT ME:
My name is Dara Anne Hartman. I am a utilitarian and sculptural ceramic artist working in Vancouver, WA and am originally from the Metropolitan DC area. I received an MFA from Montana State University in Bozeman, MT and a BFA from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. While in graduate school I was a summer resident at the Archie Bray Foundation and I spent a semester studying abroad in Italy.

MY WORK:
Over the last five years my work has primarily been about the figure and has straddled a line between sculpture and utility. Now, I am in a new place geographically, and with respect to the direction of my work. This new body of work is grounded in the functionality of utilitarian ceramics and is an investigation into volume, texture, and contrasting glazes. Additionally, I draw on such elements as patterns from textiles and contrasting colors and textures. I have combined these elements to create simple forms that incorporate subtle embellishments.
