Allysart's Profile

Bio

For as long as I can remember, creating art has been a major part of my life. And, since I liked to do it all, I became an art teacher. For 35 years I taught all the different mediums, art history, and animation. Going to work was like doing my hobby everyday. Since retiring, I needed to finally find my niche. I love weaving, printmaking and jewelry. But, since I discovered this wonderful medium of metal clay, I think I've finally found what I love to do most. Metal clay is fine silver molecules imbedded in a binder. When fired in a kiln, the binder burns away leaving .999% fine silver behind. So, what starts out as clay, ends up as metal. Metal clay can be used in lump form, syringe form, paste form or paper form which allows me to use many different techniques to create my jewelry. Once fired, it can be worked like other metals. Cubic zirconias can be fired right in the clay, while other stones need to be added afterwards. I have Level 1 Certification from PMC Connection and will be taking my Level 2 Certification in June. Since finding this relatively new medium, I don't get much sleep. Many nights I am creating into the wee hours of the night because I can't help myself. I hope you enjoy my work and come back often to see what is new. Alice Walkowski
