copiousnotes's Profile
Bio
Originally from New York, I have now inhabited one-place-or-another on the West Coast for 16 years. The landscape of my soul could be said to be the ocean or the desert, depending, though I almost always have lived in large(ish) metropolitan areas--and that's how I like it. When not making cards, avoiding housework, combing the beach, baking chocolate chip cookies, trying to determine if a discarded item is found art or really just trash (usually it's the former), enjoying afternoon tea, daydreaming or devouring a book, I can be found in museums--or at least thinking really hard about them.
About the Cards
Cards by copiousnotes have been delighting recipients since 1994. Originally inspired by the brilliant reds of a Japanese Maple tree in Portland, OR, copiousnotes cards began with designs done in pressed leaves, moving on next to pressed flowers, mostly of the posey and violet variety as they were most commonly found in nearby gardens.
Over the years, more media and techniques have been introduced to the portfolio, including origami, hand-drawing, photography, beadwork, collage and decoupage and, following a move down to the seaside of Southern California, seashells. One year, in a particular moment of whimsy, a spiny puffer fish sporting a Santa hat served as a model for a set of Christmas cards.
Recent artisitc influences include Joseph Cornell, Martha Stewart, the desert, lightning storms, the Victorian era, Rosamond Purcell, yummy baked goods, the ocean, the Sadako story, natural history collections and exhibitions, the people in my life who are normally the recipients of the cards, and any number of other things that have caught my eye, made me pause and say, "Ooh, shiny!"
