Bio
Raised in a small New Jersey town I dreamed of being a really cool secret agent. I had a black vinyl Barbie case that I totally tricked out with hand painted 007 insignia and spy gear that I made from stuff around the house.
I moved to Los Angeles in the early 80s with punk in my head and art in my heart. With a lot of blind faith, some amazing luck and a bundle of drawings under my arm, I found my way to Venice and got hired by Roger Corman at his New World Studio to design nifty props (like ray guns and space ship interiors) and art for cult movies.
These gigs led to more jobs in the film business, and interesting collaborations with some amazing people. It was a lot of fun, it truly was, but full time paychecks really got in the way of painting, so I decided to take a hiatus from the film business to get my art-chops back. One year turned into 6, and I find that I am now completely happy working as a full-time artist.
My studio is nestled in the gorgeous foothills of the Santa Susana mountains surrounded by ancient geologic formations and remnants of centuries-old Native American cultures, yet 30 minutes from the heart of Los Angeles. The energy of past, present and future in this location is very exciting. Some even say the rocks and canyons in Santa Susana have a mystical attraction, much like Taos or Chaco.
I am inspired by a lot of things including Carl Jung, 19th century German biology charts, carnival posters, weird Victorian taxidermy, sideshow punks, bog people, Catholic reliquaries, Guillermo del Toro, Christian Schad, George Herriman... sometimes I have to stop looking at new things just to give the stuff thats already in my head time to find a seat. I hope you like what you see, and please check my website to view items that might not currently be in my Etsy gallery:
