Bio

Vesper grew up in a fairly unconventional home with her mom, 4 aunts and grandparents, all of whom were slightly wacky and artsy in some way. Her grandfather was always singing and doing little jigs; her aunt taught her how to turn refrigerator boxes into the caves at Lascaux, and her grandmother could whistle through her teeth like nobody's business. Vesper decided that provincial life in Staten Island, NY was a little stifling, so she abandoned the big hair poof for a center part, started wearing a baja, taking the 6:40 am ferry, and went to the High School of Performing Arts (LaGuardia) in Manhattan. There she met the other freaks from all the other high schools in New York City, and they all had a rollicking good time reenacting scenes from the movie "Fame"--no dancing on cars, but definitely impromptu Gospel Choirs at lunch with spork percussion. It was fabulous. Oh yes, and she learned how to play the guitar, and she met Jesus. That was even more fabulous.

After a brief, unmentionable year at an unnamed college studying Scene, Costume and Lighting Design (where she gave blood, saw "Legends of the Fall" and nearly needed electric shock therapy), Vesper somehow came out with her mental health, creative drive and faith intact, took the high-speed train back to NYC, and graduated with honors from Parsons School of Design with a BFA in Illustration. These days she finds herself partnering musically with husband Ben in their duo, "Ben + Vesper" (read: Ben and, not plus, Vesper) on the Sounds Familyre label, painting as much as possible with small children, and pursuing the heart of God over grilled cheese sandwiches.

Once in a while you’ll catch her doing a little jig, too, in memory of her grandfather.
