Bio

Helen Newman's family moved to Park Slope from London in 1977, when she was four months old. At ten, she started a Christmas card business with her sisters; her specialty was colored-pencil Christmas trees and pop-up angels. She went on to major in visual art in college, where she became fascinated by quilts, balloons, and adhesives. These days she spends the springtimes in Chicago, planting organic vegetable gardens, and the remaining seasons in Park Slope, working on a memoir. She makes every single "Helen's Handmade" card herself, in her state-of-the-art design studio (that is, at her kitchen table). She loves to color with her forty-four shades of Sharpie, while listening to Radio Free Texas on the Internet.
