Mishoga's Profile
Bio
Tashi Delek (hello in Tibetan),
My name is Mish Volonino. I am a Certified, Registered, Rahini Yoga teacher living in Suffolk County, NY. I'm also a artist and enjoy creating funky and functional Yogawear separates and artwork.
I'm so excited to have the opportunity to share my homegrown line of MishogaWear on Etsy. I hope this will be the beginning of a great relationship that will meet the needs of all who frequent this website.
I've always been attracted to an eclectic style of fashion so it seemed natural to create clothes that reflected my personal style. What prompted me to start tie dying was the fact that every time I visited a new yoga studio or attended a yoga conference I was drawn to purchase tie dyed apparel.
I made a few shirts at first just having fun and experimenting. When I wore them to class my students were immediately asking for them. The first shirts I created for my students were all the same design for us to wear to conferences and workshops. My students loved them. I was so honored that they actually wanted to wear them, and wear them often.
Then a life changing event occurred. My youngest son became very ill. It was 2 months of constant worry, doctor visits, and hospital procedures. My son was finally diagnosed with Crohns Colitis in early July 2007. I was emotionally and spiritually devastated. I lightened my work schedule to stay home and nurse my son back to health. He was so sick and physically weak that many days he just stayed in bed. I needed something to stay busy emotionally and physically.
At that time I decided to experiment with Procion MX dyes, Fabric Paint, Discharging, Batiking, Embroidering, etc. I found that absorbing myself in the process helped ease my stress levels. In a sense, it was a form of therapy for me. What developed was a line of colorful, expressive, eclectic, and an original line of yoga clothes I named MishogaWear. I wanted the clothes to reflect the philosophy and symbols of what I was learning from my lineage of yoga. My knowledge of Sanskrit, Mantras, Chakras, and Tibetan Buddhism, along with my artistic background made the creative process endless.
My clothes are available at select local yoga studios on Long Island and Etsy. Price structure is based on the amount of time spent on a particular garment. All garments are handmade by me. I do all screenprinting, all painting, dying and the most time consuming... hand embroidery. I do accept custom orders as time allows.
My hope is that there will be an immediate connection with the color, style, symbol or mantra that draws you in to a particular design. It is all about connection. If there is anything I can assist you with please feel free to contact me. I thank you in advance for your time and interest in learning more about me.
