Some personal information:

I am a full time potter specializing in soda fired ceramics. I am a New Hampshire native, but I have called Chicago home for the last 10 years. I maintain a studio at Lillstreet Studios on the north side of the windy city. If you're ever in town, please stop by and say hello! (send me an email and I'll give you directions)

I have always loved art and have dabbled in many different forms. But clay pulled me in and has not let me go. I love the fact that it is an art form that is interactive and affordable, intimate and unique.

I have been writing a blog about clay for the last 4 years, http://potteryblog.com
You can visit my blog to learn more about my process, my studio and my inspirations. A full artist statement is posted there too.

Some business to take care of:

Illinois residents will have 7% sales tax added onto their order.

All work is usually shipped out on weekdays within 48 hrs. Often times it will be more prompt than that.

I ship everything Priority Mail through the USPS. The work is fragile and I have found that this is the best value and safest way for me to ship my work. If the order is larger, or if you have special needs, please contact me directly and we can see if there is a better way to do it.

At this time, things are only listed for shipping within the US. I plan on expanding this, but for now, if you'd like to purchase something outside of the US, please contact me and we can figure it out.

__________
About the work:

Most of my work is soda fired (each listing will specify the firing process).
What is soda firing, you ask?
Soda firing is a unique firing process. After 12 hrs of firing, the kiln reaches around 2250'F. This is when the magic begins. I add in a mixture of wood chips, water, calcium carbonate, soda ask & baking soda (yes, the Arm & Hammer kind). This mixture will burn and the soda will vaporize into a vaporous glaze. The vapor is carried on the flame throughout kiln and lands on the pots and glazes each piece. This creates a unique surface that is varied and unpredictable. Each piece is completely one of a kind.

Thanks for your purchase! My work is meant to be used, so it makes me happy that it has found a home.

A couple of things to note about your new piece(s):

-All work is lead-free.
-All totally ceramic pieces are microwave and dishwasher safe.
-Each piece is unique and one of a kind. Variations on the form and surface are to be expected and embraced.

-Teapots: do not put directly on burner. Avoid thermal shock and run hot tap water through pot while a metal kettle is heating up on the stove top. When the water boils, empty out the tap water and fill with boiling water.

-Heating up work in the oven: Avoid thermal shock by pre-heating the dish with the oven. Never put a cold pot from the fridge into a hot oven.

-Jewelry: Please keep in mind that my jewelry is ceramic and therefore fragile. Make sure when you take off your necklace at the end of the day that you put it down carefully (no tossing!). It should last for a very very long time!

Thanks for visiting and reading all these details.
