DonnaMarieStrachan's Profile

Bio

I'm a Scottish designer, currently living and working in London. I work with natural materials and also make my own beads and yarns when I can't quite find what I want. I also find it relaxing to spin yarn or transform a lump of polymer clay into something beautiful.

My jewellery regularly features components in a fairly natural state. I'm not such a great fan of perfect faceted gems. If mother nature has done a wonderful job, I don't see the need to mess with it :) And why have a gem that anyone can walk into a store and ask for, when you could have a unique stone instead?

I favour materials that are environmentally friendly, either sourced from responsible suppliers or recycled goods. I love rummaging through charity shops and picking up odds and ends as I walk in the countryside. There's a certain satisfaction from transforming something that's been left to rot, into an object of beauty.

When it comes to my textiles, I own a flock of sheep bred exclusively for fibre production (none sold for meat/sent for slaughter) to high welfare standards with minimal harsh chemical usage, so their fleeces are free of harmful residue. Some of my girls actually fall asleep while I shear them, so you can safely say I'm a gentle shearer! I know a lot of my fellow vegetarians are worried about animal welfare in fibre production, so I hope this reassures some of you to look for animal friendly fuzzy goods here and elsewhere, because not all farmers are evil :)

Please check my policies page for my terms and conditions of sale.

I'm convo friendly - so please get in touch if you have a question or comment, or you just want to say hi :)
