Hello, welcome to glasfaden!

My name is Devi Schäfer-Tjandra. I'm an Indonesian, living in Germany for over the half of my life now.

I am actually a graduated computer scientist in media. I loved my programming job, but as my boy was born, I realized that I was almost a robot myself. Time to make a change. I've always loved to do something creatively and incorporate my own designs and ideas (which was buried in my enthusiasm of the digital world). So I've reactivated it.

I've been making hand felted objects since 2000. I've guided projects and courses in felting and I've also taken part on markets.

In 2005 I was pounded into a glass beadmaker community. After that I couldn't think of anything else but glass beads. I work with soda-lime glass (aka soft glass) on a dual gas torch (http://www.flickr.com/photos/glasfaden/sets/72157620685034121/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/glasfaden/sets/72157604169266591/). Lampworking has opened another world for me in many ways. I'm a member of SRA (#T52).

Having an online shop here is really fun and I really love the community on Etsy. But still I want more - face-to-face communication with my customers. That's the reason to take a part-time job about twice a week in a B&M shop, which I really love - giving customers some suggestions, small talks, arranging items in real,... :)

And to tell you the truth.. I don't really left the digital world behind. I still love to do graphic designs and digital arts on my computer, but I'm not programming anymore (if I don't have to ;)). I like the variety of my work now - it keeps me stay balanced.

If you have any suggestions or critics, please convo me. I'm glad to hear your feedbacks - negatives or positives are both welcome. I learn by doing, so feedback is very important to me (being a perfectionist ;)).

I have started on Etsy as a buyer only http://imperfectalia.etsy.com - thought, the name is okay as a buyer, but not as a shop, so I left it as my buyer account and set up glasfaden as my shop. I'm thinking of placing my non-jewelry item to my other Etsy account sichtweise, but at the moment I seem not to find the time to do so.
