naydja's Profile

Bio

Naydja Domingue Bynum grew up in a family where all women sewed, some for a living, others just because that is what women did. Nayjda started sewing at age 12, mostly making clothes for school and costumes for special holidays, such as Christmas, Easter and of course for her high school prom.

Because Naydja is a very active person and spends a lot of time working in her community, she finds her time sewing relaxing, allowing her personal creativity and artistic talents to surface.

Although she has thought about making “things” and participating in craft shows, it was not until recently that this opportunity presented itself.

One day, Naydja attempted to help her, then, 14 year old niece to “make some money to buy a lap top”, she found herself suggesting that she make ladies purses and soon got hooked herself with the idea. Once Naydja discovered the wealth of the fleur de lis fabric that was available, she was inspired to keep going. Thanks to Essence Festival, she’s pushed her creative inspiration farther in hopes of spreading the spirit of the Fleur de Lis and the spirit of New Orleans to all who visit.
