Bio

Hi! My name is Becky. Thanks for visiting my shop.

I am a mid-thirty-something mom of three very active (and loud) young children -- who seem to be growing up too quickly. I live in a very picturesque small town just outside of Montreal. My days are spent trying to fit a million plans and projects into 24 short hours. Just when I think I am starting to get the whole "balance" thing understood, something new happens and off I go again....

I created Organic Quilt Company following my quest to find sustainable quilting cottons to feed my decade-long quilting habit. As a long-time quilter, I was increasingly concerned when I thought of the chemicals devoured by the quilting industry. As a mother of three, I was worried about wrapping my babies up in chemically-laced blankets when I tucked them into bed at night.

Inspired by the exquisite organic cotton fabrics that I found, I decided to create a line of luxuriously soft quilts and receiving blankets. It is my hope to provide a fresh alternative to people concerned with cuddling their families in beautiful, sustainable, high-quality quilts and baby blankets.

**********About Organic***********
At Organic Quilt Company you get what you pay for. While some companies claim to be organic, we carefully source and use the finest *CERTIFIED- ORGANIC* cotton fabrics. Certified-Organic cotton does cost a little bit more but its long-term advantages are priceless. Here’s why:
• While conventional cotton accounts for 11% of all pesticides and 25% of the insecticides used worldwide each year, Certified-Organic cotton increases soil fertility and biodiversity, reduces water pollution, and is good for the Earth
• Many of our fabrics are grown and milled in the US which means a smaller environmental footprint for all of our products.
• All of our fabrics are dyed with low-impact fiber-reactive or natural dyes, inks, or pigments (no heavy metals or pollutants here!). Some of our fabrics are even patterned without the use of dyes at all!
• All of our imported fabrics are Fairly Traded which ensures a safe, healthy, and responsible working environment (and no child or forced labor)
• Organic cotton is not finished with formaldehyde and, because there are no harmful chemicals used in its production, Certified-Organic cotton is less likely to trigger allergies

*********Custom Orders***********
I offer several color options for our blanket sets and quilts, but am always happy to create a custom order for you based on your personal color preferences. Custom-made quilts for kids and adults are also available. Please contact me to discuss size, color, and price options.
