Bio

Billie's Soap and Spa Products was started in 2007, after outgrowing the existing family partnership.

Billie's was started to fill a huge void in bath, cleaning, and personal products--natural, high-quality products that are affordable.

Time and time again, we hear customers say, "I can't believe that this is all-natural, and it costs the same as what I'm buying at the supermarket!"

From the beginning, we've made top-quality, 100% handmade products, from ingredients and raw material sources that are environmentally accountable.

Because we want the environmental footprint of our products to be as small as possible, we use the following framework building our recipes: 1) the ingredient or component must be either organic, or as all-natural as possible (some things, such as preservatives for water-based products are almost impossible to find naturally, to ensure that the product is safely made); and 2) that the source for the ingredients is as close as possible--ideally, within 400 miles.

Billie's is located in North Dakota, the Heartland of America, and many of our ingredients are grown right here, in our state, or in Manitoba, the Canadian province right above us. This allows us to eliminate the fossil fuel expenditure of shipping raw ingredients to us, and allows us to get to know the growers and producers personally. While not all of our ingredients are from ideal sources yet, this is the area we are working the most upon.

Our products are safe, healthy, and are competitive with the best spa products. We want you to find as much satisfaction with our products as you do when you visit a spa. Look no further than Billie's for the hottest trends (think Rooibos tea for hair products) and the best-kept traditional secrets (did you know that Lavender is a safe, natural moth-repellant?) in each and every product. If we don't carry it, or use it--ask us why!

Just as important to us are the customers who could never dream of visiting a spa--who are saving the planet by replacing their supermarket, not-made-in-America products with wholesame, luxury products--for the same price.

We understand that sometimes financial situations aren't ideal--the daughter of our company's oldest partner has major heart problems, and we've been there with them and seen all of the hardships that money problems can cause.

We also understand that if money isn't a problem, that you shouldn't feel bad for purchasing the best products made of the best ingredients.

We at Billie's are here for everyone.

Take Care,
Billie, Brian, & Dale

P.S. If you currently use a Billie's product, but don't see it on the website--don't worry! We are very new at web site posting, and are frantically working to get all of our soaps, cleaning products, and spa products online--but if you don't see it, just contact us--we still have it!

Why Buy Soap?

“Good soap is the ultimate spa product. People don’t know this, but it’s much more difficult to make a fine bar soap than it is to make a fine liquid product in a bottle. Real, high-quality bar soaps—the best ones are true spa experiences, that you get to use everyday. It’s kind of a secret, you know?” --Billie Kellar, On Soap

Most mass-market stores don’t sell lines of unique bar soaps because, frankly, they are by far the most labor-intensive product to produce—lotions and bubble baths are much easier, and can be done for fractions of the cost that people pay. Holiday advertising promises how wonderful the products will be—and millions of well-wishing friends and family buy them for presents—and they are used once or twice and sit on the shelf, or in a drawer—because they just aren’t as great as the ads promised they would be. The bar soaps you do find are usually clear glycerin soaps.

Not at Billie’s—Remember, all soap is not the same!

From experiences with commercial “bar soaps”, a lot of people think that they can’t use soap on their face or for shampoo—and for those companies’ products, they’re right!

Here at Billie’s, bar soap is not a harsh, drying thing to keep next to your sink and only use to wash your hands. Our Soap is a Spa Experience—it is anything from gentle baby washes to beautiful salon-quality shampoo. And all of our bar soaps are affordable—you won’t find one more than $7.00. I promise.

Lavender Vanilla Cream is a mild facial cleanser, with a more neutral pH, gentle goat milk, and both the essential oil of and the powdered flower of true lavender. Your face will thank you. J

Our Herbal Shampoo Bar is salon-quality, with premium ingredients—and its better for the environment than almost every liquid shampoo. So far, at Billie’s, hundreds of women have made the switch.

Why?

Liquid shampoo, almost without exception, is not natural. Most brands use from 25-40% petroleum distillates, and the good ones are expensive. Billie’s Herbal Shampoo Bar, uses 0% petroleum.

Why does Billie’s make products look like commercial soap if they are not?

First, Billie’s bar soaps don’t look like other soaps. You’ll see it—and feel it—and smell it—right away. Quality shows, no matter what the product is.

We make solid bars both because that enables us to bypass the un-natural ingredients, but more importantly, because it makes a product that will last. Instead of building products that you will use up quickly (think thin liquids with bottles with large openings) we want to give you products that you can afford to use. Our products are true Quality, from price to performance—and everything in between.

So, Why should you buy soap for a Christmas present? Because you want the best. You want to give a present that is the best product, with the best performance, and ultimately, the best experience—and here at Billie’s, our soaps are a spa experience that (on average based on customer reports and personal experiences here) lasts for a month and costs less than the average lunch!

So, before you just buy a lotion, or a bubble bath—look at soap.

If, however, you know that while you love and have our soaps, that you need a lotion, scrub, massage oil, milk bath, laundry product, or children’s toy—we understand—so do we! (editorial note by Billie) I couldn’t make it without my milk bath, my shea butter, or my Mom’s lotion! Every product we offer at Billie’s has passed the same exacting standards of price, quality, and purpose.

So, if that’s what you’re buying, relax—our lotions and massage oils are just as good as our soaps—we strive to only make and sell the best, and all of our recipes were formulated and created with the same love and care.
