EastBayPotters's Profile

Bio

Artist, Writer and Chef soon to be Inn owner on the big island of Hawaii!

In college I dabbled in ceramics and always wanted to go back to it. Finally, 30 years later I did. While living in Chicago I enrolled in Elgin Community College's Ceramics and Glass programs. After two years of initial study under Professor Howard Russo, I started the Independent Study Program in both Ceramics and Glass. When we moved to the San Francisco area I found the Walnut Creek Civic Arts program. There are many teachers and over 150 students working in the program. The Clay Arts Guild in the same studio provides workshops and open studio time as well. I have a studio at my home, but spend most of my time in the communal studio environment.

I have been fascinated with the extruder and the possibilities it provides for several years. However, little instruction exists in this fairly small nice of ceramics. However, I started buying books and an extruder and stared teaching myself as much as I could. Daryl Baird's The Extruder Book was my first book on extruding and from there I bought every other extruder book I could find. I also bought David Hendley's DVD Extrude It series and found it extremely helpful.

I also do jewelry, sculpture and hand building. You can see photos of my work on my blog at www.eastbaypotters.blogspot.com
