Bio

I am currently a SAHM, but formerly a Molecular Biologist. Since I decided to stay at home with the kids, I thought I'd give pottery a try to give the right side of my brain a little more action. I fell in love with the wheel and decorating.

While searching on the web I became interested in the metal working technique of mokume gane. This was a technique developed in Japan, and used in the making of Samuri sword fittings. Mokume Gane translates to "wood eye metal", meaning that the finished product looks like burls of wood. It's commonly used in metal working today to produce beautiful wedding bands. I was fascinated by this technique, and intrigued by the layering of colors and patterns. So I thought I would try to modify the concept to work with pottery.
