MDHfineart's Profile

Bio

I am a fine art photographer, art educator and graphic designer whose efforts are informed by a deep attachment to the rural topography of my Catskill Mountain home in upstate New York. My graphic design served non-profit organizations for over fifteen years. Some of my main clients were land-stewardship organizations, so it was a natural progression when I began exploring my own land-based interests through alternative photography. My approach incorporates tools I was first introduced to as a graphic designer; I use a flatbed scanner to examine fine details in the environment more closely.

I am a full time faculty member in the Graphic Design Department for the Art Institute of Pittsburgh - Online Division. I have also taught graphic design, drawing and photography courses for colleges in my area. I received a BFA in graphic design in 1995 from SUNY College at New Paltz and a MFA in visual art in January 2006 from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University.
