Well lets see...who am I?? It took me a long time to figure that out, but now I'm sure of the answer.
My name is Tina Thompson...I am a wife, mother, a woman who is in this world figuring out and trying to fulfill my purpose in life through Jesus Christ. I was blessed with a wonderful, loving, hard working man ten years ago. Along our journey together we have had four children ages eight, six, four, and ten months. I look back over the last ten years and just say...WOW!! Through the highs and lows of life in this world, we have been so blessed!
I've always loved to craft, and it started way back when I was a little girl making mop dolls for my Grandma. She'd buy the supplies and I whip them up. So really I started making dolls a long time ago. My style has changed a little over the years though-thank goodness. I wish I could find one of those old dolls around somewhere so I could show one to you. Anyway, I learned to sew on my Grandma's old Singer sewing machine. It was so old but it just kept plugging away and after my Grandmother died, that was the one thing I really wanted of hers. But by that time everytime you used it the room would fill with smoke and I figured it wasn't too safe to use anymore =0). I decided to stay at home with our eldest son and money was really tight, so my mother-in-law gave me her old sewing machine and I was so thankful! I called it the Green Beast...because well...it was green and old and acted like a beast sometimes. But man, I was so thankful to have it and boy did it sew up a lot of dolls!!
I started selling my dolls online in 1993 and again feel blessed that my dolls have been mailed to people all over the world. I started with my own website and then after taking a break for over a year to remodel our new (build in 1909) home and deal with the stresses of my husband Keith, serving in Iraq for 18 months. It was hard, but I thank God for that time for each of us to strengthen and grow as individuals. After we were finally settled and my husband was back home, I was ready to sew again and that is when I found Etsy!
Today...I'm blessed to still be at home with our children. I babysit during the day, which has become a loving extention of our own family. My dolls are inspired by my faith and of course my children and extended children. I love all sorts of materials and fabrics and shoving everything together and that is what this little site is about! I found my little space in this big old house in my laundry room. Like I'm not in there enough with a family of six... but it was one spot where I was able to find a quiet little corner which was out of everyones way. A place where I could jump up and leave my little strings and bits of fabric and stuffing on the floor and no one would notice...who else goes in there but me anyway?? =0) Not the most creative environment, with my washer and dryer clanking in the background and tripping over the sorted piles waiting in line...lol... but I'm thankful for that little spot to just sit down and stitch away.
Oh, and I still use my Grandma's old sewing machine. Well kind of...it is tucked down in the old singer sewing machine table which I still use. I just plopped my new machine right down on the top of it and use it like that. The drawers are still full of her treasures!
