This is Argentium1. I am using that name because most of the work that I make is out of Argentium fine and sterling silver. My name is Hershal Wiggins.
Argentium is a low tarnishing sterling silver. It contains the same amount of silver as regular sterling silver. The difference in these two silvers is the added material. Without trying to get to complicated let me just say this: fine silver is 999 percent silver (pure): sterling silver is 92.5 percent silver the other additive is copper. Copper makes the silver harder so that it last longer, BUT it also makes the silver tarnish. Argentium sterling silver replaces the copper with germanium, germanium does not tarnish. Now, having said that, the silver may change color slightly but this can be removes with a polishing cloth and a SWIPE not a buffing. Okay about me. I went to Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts) to study Photography. I loved the art of photography (still do) but needed to make a living. So I transferred to Parson School of Design to study fashion photography. I worked for many famous fashion photographers in New York After reading thousands of fashion magazines, I discovered that I liked the fashion and jewelry more than the photography. I returned to PCA to studied jewelry and textiles. Jewelry started to dominate my interest and I flew with it. I returned to Parson to study jewelry. Over the course of the next twenty years I also went to the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Jewelry Arts Institute Again I was blessed and work in many famous jewelry houses. . This story gets to long so I am ending it.
Now my work is in museum, galleries and now on Etsy
On Etsy you will get to see what I enjoy making and what I like. ALL of the work is made by hand and none of it cast. Even the smallest round balls are heated and made one at a time. ALL of the works are ORIGINALS designs by me.
If you want high quality work, than you find it on this website. The gold is 24 karat pure (unless otherwise noted), the silver is Argentium or fine (some chains may be sterling, but this will also be noted). I was trained by some of the finest jewelers in the world. On Etsy I will get to show you all of this training along with original ideal. Some of my work will use ancient technique mixed with a neo touch. Some of the work will be refined and perfect yet others will hold an organic flavor, but the best work will have a taste of both.
