Egilpatr's Profile
Bio
Hi,
My name is Eleanor Gilpatrick. I am a fine art painter of landscapes, people, and still lifes. A contemporary realist, my strengths are in my use of color and composition, with sometimes surprising takes on content. I started by doing drawings and working in oil, but now I work in acrylic on stretched canvas.
I was once a professor at the School of Health Sciences, Hunter College, City University of New York; I authored four books, directed a masters program in health services administration, and pioneered courses in critical thinking and writing. But my first love is painting, and I never look back.
When I came back to painting I was surprised that what I was moved to paint did not seem to be political, but instead were affirmations of life and a celebration of beauty; but recently I have painted beauty contrasted with the "terrible" in the real world of our time. Nine of such paintings are called "In The World." They juxtapose images of the Iraqi war and other terrifying events with serene and beautiful scenes of American life. I have also added studies based on images from Iraq and now Afghanistan found in press photos. I hope that people will connect with what is going on "In The World."
I have had solo shows in Manhattan, including the Bulgarian Consulate, and have works on display throughout the year in in Havre de Grace, MD. I have been in over 35 juried shows since 1999.
An article on the development of my palette appeared in American Artist Magazine, November 2002. A column about my Aquarium Series appeared in Watermarks, Summer 2006. My painting, The Shell Monument, was the August selection in The Emerging Artists 2007 Calendar.
I offer free shipping, and would be happy to arrange private showings by appointment in New York City.
Please write to me if you have any questions.
