Bio

I've been playing in clay ever since I can remember. A few years hiatus raising my boys, now I'm back full in full swing and having a blast. I have had wonderful opportunities that have helped shape my work. I was born and raised in Indiana, one of 10 siblings. My love for art and craft began when I was very young,I converted my closet into a workroom where I often retreated from the hectic household. I was introduced to pottery in high school and has been addicted ever since. I received my BFA from St Mary’s College in Notre Dame Indiana. I had the opportunity to apprentice with a production potter in Maryland and in 1989 was one of 18 ceramic artists from 9 different countries to participate in the International Workshop of Ceramic Art in Tokoname Japan. I work out of my studio in Grapevine Texas.
I enjoy making contemporary functional pottery to be used and enjoyed in your home. I enjoy exploring new forms and shapes. I use a combination of hand built elements and textures with wheel thrown forms some of which are altered.
My surface treatments are a reflection of my experience and use of fabric. I was taught to sew at a young age and sewing was an integral part of my youth. My mother or I sewed most of my clothing. I often went to the fabric store and touched and felt each piece of fabric. I am interested in the patterns and textures that can be achieved on the surface of the clay. By manipulating the clay and layering the glaze I create a fabric that covers my forms.
