SolsticeStudios's Profile
Bio
About me: I am a mom, wife, artist, spiritualist, historian, craftswoman, doula, scientist, musician, poet. I live with three fascinating boys on a beautiful, forested farm close to the Rocky Mountains. We raise llamas and angora rabbits for fibre.
About history: Our modest home overlooks a serene river valley and right next door is the original pioneer homestead, a log cabin that I have converted into my weaving studio. I believe in history, the way it shapes our future and the wisdom of learning from our past. My grandmother was a weaver in Sweden, as well as her mother before her, and perhaps untold numbers of generations before her.
About life: I see my love for threads, colors, texture, and textiles as something I've been born into. It runs in my blood and is part of my truest self. At one time while pursuing a career in microbiology, I digressed and took a road less travelled. I now listen to my heart song, upkeep a historical building as my studio, use ancient tools to make art, raise animals in a kind and compassionate way, and practice self-sufficiency while enjoying modern amnemnities such as Gerard Butler films, satellite radio, and internet spiritualism.
About weaving: I spend a long time planning unique and modern garments that I usually end up spontaneously changing midway to completion. To me they speak. Functional yet beautiful, colorful yet peaceful, modern yet historical, passionate yet grounded. Listen... they will speak to you too.
About spirituality: In everything, set an example by doing what is good.
