how it all began....
Late one night I curled up with a copy of Jay Gilbertson’s delightful first book, 'Moon Over Madeline Island'. It was a great read and I laughed all the way through the adventures of Eve and Ruby starting an apron making business on the island. “Crazy idea”, I thought to myself. Makes for a good story but no one would seriously pursue the apron business...would they?
A few days later, I packed up the Mini and headed north to Lake Superior with Pecos, my dog buddy. When we got to Bayfield, the ferry was just boarding for Madeline Island. My internet searches had turned up a dog friendly motel and an adorable cottage for sale. I couldn't wait to see it!
The cottage was charming and the island is a great place for inspiration, but Eve and Ruby have a good thing going out there and one apron shop per island is probably enough. So I went home, oiled up my vintage Kenmore and set up shop right here on beautiful Lake Minnetonka...not far from the original Tonka Toy shop. For just a moment, I considered Tonka Aprons, but LAH-TI-DAH it is!
I hope you enjoy my aprons...and if you are looking for a fun read check out Jay’s books at www.jaygilbertson.com. Some day, I am going to write and thank him for the inspiration. Who knows, maybe he will have some good marketing tips to share.
