SweetSouls's Profile
Bio
Although I've been creating bits of whimsy for as long as I can remember and even became a professional children's book illustrator I didn't discover the magic of teddy bears as an artform until 2003. When my beloved grandmother passed away I found solace in quietly hand sewing in her favorite little room. By chance I happened upon a few scraps of old mohair and there was an instant connection.
Yards and yards of muslin and mohair later, as well as countless hours of pattern drafting, the face of Sweet Souls Bears emerged. In fact, it has taken four years to achieve the look of Sweet Souls. Their design may appear simple but much work goes into each and every bear with the hope of bringing you endearing little moppets filled with love.
Since I’m an avowed vintage fabric and trim fanatic every bear, cushion and garment is carefully hand stitched from the finest fabrics to ensure the utmost quality and longevity. Each bear is crafted from imported mohair and filled with wool, excelsior and sterilized coarse sand for a nice weight in the hand. Their eyes are hand blown German glass and set firmly with cording. All little dresses and clothing sets are sewn from all natural materials - cotton, linen, silk or wool - and often feature lovely Liberty of London prints in cotton lawn. The sweet fabric bows that accompany every Sweet Soul are hand-painted 100% silk.
