TimberSong's Profile

Bio

In the process of cutting up felled trees, I am always awestruck by the outstanding grain, rays, figure, spalting, quilting, colours and general beauty found within the wood. I turn these bowls myself, either from the green logs (which are then seasoned) or usually from logs that I have 'planked' and left to season under the overhang. Like Michelangelo and his sculpture, I always try to cut away the parts of the wood that aren't the bowl and what is left over is always stunning! Then I sand out most of the tool-marks and finish with either a food-safe oil and wax finish, or a semi-glossy shellac, depending upon the intended use of the piece. Then I sign and date each piece and offer it for sale to you. I hope that you enjoy them, I sure enjoy making them!
