Welcome to the Atlanta Incense Company or simply, ‘Atlanta Incense’
My love for pure quality incense grew out of a personal commitment and patriotic duty when in 1968 as an 18 year old ‘streetwise’ kid from New York City I had volunteered to join the US Army. This decision soon brought me to the Central Highlands of Vietnam.
This was an area inhabited by an indigenous people known as Montengards or ‘mountain people’. Deep in the high valleys where these mountain people lived, and carved into the many mountains, were ornate temples where Buddhist and Tibetan Monks lived for centuries without any outside world contact.
I quickly developed an admiration for the community of Monks whom I would often come upon while they prayed and meditated. I admired and respected their discipline and sacrifice for the challenges and responsibilities their life of solitude offered them.
I remember being so impressed with the peacefulness they found from within while a world of turmoil existed around them.
I was mesmerized by the ornate Temples decorated with hand carved artifacts made from wood, stone and granite. It wasn’t long before I came to respect their humble lifestyle and meager ways. Yet nothing prepared me for the mystique I felt as I absorbed the tense magic of incense that constantly permeated off the temple walls. It was then I began to witness and respect the therapeutic benefits of incense along with the chanting, the smells, the deep meditation, and magic of it all.
I would often recall the sweet earthy aroma many Montengard villages had as I passed through them. After time I would discover this sweetness was Agar wood chips and dried Patchouli leaves used as incense which they would burn in their outdoor fire pits. It was used as a natural purification and believed to cleanse the air of all its negativity.
For nearly 40 years afterwards I have been on a personal search for the same incense with its magic and mystique that brought me back to the peacefulness I had found in the Temples of Vietnam. A great deal of time over the years was spent experimenting with an eclectic blend of incense. I enjoyed countless hours reading and researching its history and the many medicinal and therapeutic benefits NATURAL incense offers.
What is on this site is an offering of what I believe to be some of the best hand-crafted incense.
Each selection is 100% natural consisting of select flower oils, resins, herbs and spices.
With a life time of devotion and love placed into the craft as the Buddhist Monks and indigenous people of the Vietnam Highlands have dedicated, my personal selection of hand-blended incense will truly please the truest connoisseur.
Peace Love and Incense!
