Bio
Since accepting his first commission at age 16, American artist and designer John Warner has dedicated his talent to creating art that evokes feelings of harmony and tranquility, while exploring form, balance, and tension. Using a variety of media including exotic wood, metals and stone, John creates fluid, elegant work that ranges from highly abstract sculpture to highly functional custom woodworking and large-scale wind chimes. His many pieces can be found on public display and in private collections nationwide and in Mexico.
"In music, in the moment the wind fills the sails, in the loss of someone close - in every moment of every day lies a distinctive and eclectic mixture of emotions for which no words in any language can describe. These moments sometimes pass by undetected and sometimes effortlessly dismantle the elaborate synthesis each of us calls life. These are my inspiration. They are my muse. Some I take seriously and some not at all, but each one I experience personally or perhaps imagine has a voice which I try to translate into something physical and beautiful."
John also translates his artistic eye to other projects. In addition to his sculpture, John has eight years of experience in industrial design and model making. His design skills include sketching, full-scale drafting, computer modeling, and prototyping utilized by a variety of clients. His expert and clean designs led to several design and utility patents, and can be found in major commercial products, including contract office furniture, residential furnishings, home fashion, marine safety, and medical.
For clients desiring a unique approach to landscape architecture, John designs and builds imaginative and beautiful deck and patio environments that become sculptures themselves. These designs integrate practical use with art in a way that is both distinctive and comfortable.
John holds a Bachelor's of Fine Arts from Kendall College of Art and Design with a major in industrial design and a minor in sculpture. John currently resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan with his two sons.
John is currently accepting commission work for sculpture, custom furniture, and custom wind chimes.
