GRITS = Girl Raised In The South.
Where I come from is important, because it's really a huge part of who and what I am...as a person and an artist.
A southern girl at heart, does not a "dumb redneck" make. To me it just means that sometimes simple is better, family is pivotal, nature loves us and we should show that the feeling is mutual, with age Does come much wisdom, 30 acres in the middle of nowhere is 100 times better than 1 acre that thinks it's "somewhere", there Are still honest people, the stars are brighter and more often than not you can walk into your back yard and find the peace to let your mind relax.
Not that I remember but I'm sure it all started with crayons & finger paints when I was about 2. Seeing the photos of myself standing in front of a tiny little easel with hands covered in a rainbow of color, and those 5 year old memories of being thrilled by a new box of crayons assure me of this.
Luckily my mother has always had great and varied tastes in books, music, movies & art and always offered these to us from a young age, and was never very restrictive as to what we were allowed to explore. I am what most might consider a jack of all trades when it comes to the world of the arts. I have always thrived on music and dance, though I play no instrument and can't really dance...believe me I would (and will) if I could. :) Not that it matters much that I can't perform it...the love, passion and satisfaction I have for and receive from music and dance as an observer is a wonderful thing.
I give my performance by presenting art and crafts to my audience. Things that are loved and cherished for their visual appeal, sentimental value and in many cases their everyday or personal usefulness.
I love to make things, especially making something new from something old...long before it was a fad to be "green" I was just a pack rat attempting to justify all the useless junk that I just knew would be cool to use for something. So now that we all know we should reuse more, my little creations seem to have a bit more purpose for us all.
In addition to the crafty recycling, I am always at work on some type of artsy project. I work with art in the virtual world as well. Sharpening my graphics skills for 7 years now, I specialize mainly in high quality graphics for print and web use, as well as photo manipulation and enhancement. I have designed ads for several percussion companies that have been distributed in magazines worldwide. I also create graphics for stationary, album artwork, flyers, t-shirts & other swag, websites & shops and tons of other uses. All of my graphics are high quality and can be used for print or web.
I also dabble in photography, painting, drawing and polymer clay sculpting...so you will occasionally see prints, posters, artwork, clay beads and other nifty pieces offered as well.
Last, but obviously not least is my pyrography work.
Pyrography means "writing with fire", it is an art that has been practiced by many cultures since the dawn of recorded time. The art involves scorching, or burning, designs into natural materials like wood and leather.
I have worked with pyrography for 20 years, much of that time it was mainly a favorite hobby, I created things for myself and of course got in lots of practice making many items as gifts for friends and family.
In recent years I have been able to begin taking commissions for pyrography pieces and other crafts, mostly word of mouth through friends who owned pieces I'd done. Then there was the wonderful world of the internet, a gallery on a site or two and wow what a confidence boost to find that there are folks over the world who appreciate my work. So here I am at etsy, which seems to be the perfect online home base shopping spot for any and all things made by hand. My burning work covers subjects that appeal to Kids, Gamers, Gothic, Horror, Pagan, Christian and everything in between...the versatility of pyrography offers a unique style of art to anyone.
I am always available for commission of pyrography, graphics and any other type of project you might have.
Just convo me and let me know what type of work you are interested in.
