Bio

Hello, my name is Becca, I'm 20+ years old, and have been sewing since I was old enough to be trusted with a needle. And as far back as I can remember (Mom say's even longer) I've been interested in the making and designing of apparel.

I currently live on a little hobby farm with the rest of my family (Dad, Mom, 9 sisters and 1 brother), along with a horse, 3 cows, too many goats, bunch of chickens, and a few cats and dogs (they stay outside). For the first 15 years of my life I had abided in the city, and when we first moved to the country it took a bit of getting used to, but now I wouldn't want to move back, I like the open space.

Educationally, I learned pretty much all I really want to know on my own. I was "home-schooled", or home-educated as my Dad calls it, and that was very hands off. Other then the "basics" (math, english, etc.) I was free to explore solo. I have thought before about going to a fashion school or something and "furthering my education", but I'm very sensitive when it comes to my creative process and I'm afraid that going to one would some how mar the individuality of my style. I figure trial and error are pretty good teachers.

I also do a lot of painting with watercolors and acrylic, sketching, graphic design and web programing. A couple of the things I like to study are historical fashion, and how the human body runs. I really want to get into doing pottery, and building houses and other structures out of alternative materials (such as straw-bales). And in my "free-time" I like to read (particularly anything by Agatha Christie), watch movies (mostly old, but some new)(10,000 BC is the most recent favorite) and just relax with my other siblings.

In 2007 I went the whole year with only buying clothing at thrift shops and/or making things from scratch (you can check out more about that at usedcouture.blogspot.com). And by the time the year had passed, I'd been experiencing so much creative freedom with my clothes, I couldn't go back to buying mass made stuff.
In that year I'd also come across Craftster.org and from there found Etsy.com. Wow, there are other people out there interested in handmade apparel!

And from all this sprung Little Amiss.

And I'd be terribly flattered if you'd like to check out my blogs:
