Bio

Jean Weiner grew up in northern Illinois, loving nature from an early age. Her realistic, detailed, watercolor paintings typically carry a theme of nature and wildlife, something that inspires her and speaks to her heart. She majored in biology while at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois and received her Bachelor of Arts degree. She went on to receive her Master of Science in biomedical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She worked as a biomedical engineer for a medical device company in north suburban Chicago until she and her husband started their family. She considers herself fortunate that she could be a stay home mom with her two children. In 1997 her family relocated to Albany, GA when her husband was promoted with his employer. She has enjoyed being an active volunteer in the community, serving as the PTO president for her children’s schools. After a battle with cancer in 2003, Jean picked up her brushes again ending a 25-year hiatus from painting. She is a member of the Southern Artist League in Valdosta, GA, The Tallahassee Watercolor Society, The Georgia Watercolor Society and the Southern Watercolor Society. She currently serves on the board as treasurer for the Southern Watercolor Society. She exhibits and sells her art locally, regionally and most recently, nationally, and has won numerous awards. She has been commissioned to do a number of paintings for private collections since becoming a professional watercolor artist. Jean teaches watercolor classes locally in Albany and also conducts watercolor workshops.
