Bio

I have been doing something with my hands all my life, embroidery, sewing clothing, crewel embroidery (the 70's!), crochet, then quilting and finally dyeing and creating my own cloth. This is my passion, what I love. I use all kinds of techniques to create my own original cloth which I use in my art.
I am an explorer with dyes and paints and any type of fiber. I also love to recycle what I have and you can find me painting used dryer sheets and fusible web to use as layers in my art. My passion is to create textures on cloth and I have recently started to experiment with a deconstructed screen printing process that gives a breakdown appearance on cloth. If you don't know what that looks like, check out the Turquoise Silk Charmeuse scarf in the shop. There is also a tutorial on my blog at http://katherinesands.wordpress.com. It's the link titled Breakdown Printing if you are interested in seeing how this is done.
I juried into the Illinois Artisan's Program in 2005 and have fiber pieces in area galleries. I belong to Southwestern Indiana Arts Council and jury into many of their exhibits. You can find me out promoting my work at art fairs in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky as well as other venues.
