thepottyknitter's Profile

Bio

They call me the Potty Knitter because I have been knitting and potting in Melbourne for more than 30 years and my work is often motivated by someone telling me 'you can't do that, Angie'.
My passion has always been functional ware and everyday garments and I receive great satisfaction from knowing that my work is being used or worn daily, adding color and vibrancy to the everyday.
My work is heavily influenced by southern European Majolica and textiles from countries like Spain, Portugal, Italy and Austria, where I had the opportunity to work in the 80's.
Having learned to knit and crochet as a child, I simply love handmade textiles. Currently I having fun with felted knits and traditional colorful patterns from all over the world.
The green ethics of reducing, re-using and recycling are very important to me and I'm constantly working on recycling already existing things and materials, turning them into beautiful items to use or wear. This passion of mine has led me to recycle all my own yarns. My felted knits and all other textiles are created from recycled wool, silk, and recycled man-made yarns.
