Bio

I am a high school art teacher and getting my teaching degree in 2000 was one of the best things I have ever done. Until that time I was doing freelance artwork in Charleston, SC such as murals, paintings and calligraphy invitations, yes, I addressed 500 invitations for one wedding!

In 1999, I went back to college and received my masters in art education where my professor introduced me to batik. I fell in love with creating silk scarves using the serti method, french meaning to fence in. I use a tjanting tool to apply the hot wax and then paint in the areas with Fiber Reactive Procion dyes, unlike some fabric paint, this dye becomes part of the silk threads. All scarves are steamfixed to create more vibrant, brilliant and permanent colors.

Currently I am using 8mm Habotai which is lightweight and breezy "China Silk" and a 12mm Crepe de Chine silk. The scarves are hand rolled and hemmed on all four sides with 100% silk thread. The fabric is very easy to care for, simple hand washing and ironing is all that is needed. Detail care instructions are included with each scarf.

As time allows I hope to also add pottery, watercolor paintings and prints of my work.
