A little bit about me ... I am a SAHM to a beautiful 3 1/2 year old daughter who has changed my life for the better! I have several cute nicknames for her, but ChickieGirl seems to fit her most. It only seemed fitting to name this little store after her since she is my muse. :)

I have been creating since a little girl. One of my fondest memories of school is happily walking to my kindergarden class knowing I would get to use the crayons to draw colorful pictures to bring home. I started crocheting at age 7. My Barbie enjoyed many warm handmade blankets and pillows by me. I've been, eh hem, hooked ever since. My newest medium is polymer clay. I have been working with this for approximately four years.

I was fortunate enough to go back to school recently and graduated with a Bachelors in Communications/Graphic Design and a Minor in Art. It was a wonderful experience and I am so blessed to have had the chance to attend.

If you are interested in an item and have some questions, please do not hesitate to contact me! I'd be glad to address any concerns and/or thoughts you may have.

A Little About my Hairsticks:

Each hairstick is handmade by me. I make them from beginning to end. It is so satisfying knowing that the result is a creation that was shaped by my hands. I feel a personal connection with each pair of hairsticks I make and think of them as miniature sculptures, wearable art.

I make my wooden sticks from oak wood. I like oak as it is a hard durable wood. It has a bit of a texture, but after sanding, using four different grades of sand paper, the texture becomes much smoother and will not snag hair. I then either stain the sticks or paint them with several coats of enamel paint, followed with many layers of a protective coating.

Once in a while, I will use pre-made, pre-stained wooden sticks. If that is the case, I still sand these sticks to make sure they are smooth, then either paint them with several coats of enamel and sealer or leave as is (unless more staining is needed) with a light coat of protective sealer.

A Little About my Polymer Clay Jewelry:

I create the focal beads for the toppers, pendants and sometimes the accent beads, out of polymer clay. The clays used are Premo! and Fimo, which are durable and used by clay artists. I love playing around with color, themes and shapes and I try to offer unique toppers and jewelry that are one of a kind. I make my beads in small batches and cure them at the proper temperature so they will be hard and strong. Depending on the type of bead or pendant, it may (or may not) be sanded with many grits of sand paper starting at 320 or 400 on up to 1000 grit, and then they are buffed to a nice sheen. I will most often use a protective coating on my beads and pendants, which gives them a satin or glassy shine.

I strive to make my hairsticks and jewelry as durable as possible. I package each set in a box and I take special care to make the recipient feel as though they are receiving a special gift. I want the owner of my jewelry to smile when they open the box. These are the pieces they will enjoy for many years to come.
