DioneYoung's Profile

Bio

I grew up near Atlanta, Georgia. I’ve been crafting since the young age of 5, when I made a rag doll from my old gown to surprise my mom for Christmas. It had button eyes and arms of rolled fabric. And yes, she did cry.

My mom and grandmother were always sewing. My grandmother’s machine is an old foot-peddled Phaff. As a young child in the 1970’s my grandmother was into macramé, as were virtually all other American women at the time. She made all kinds of things, including a purse she still occasionally uses. I attempted some macramé projects as well, with limited success.

In school I always loved art class, but drawing and painting were my weaker areas, as they still are. My first public display of art was at my kindergarten graduation. I had colored in a life-sized outline of myself. I was so proud of it that I have it to this day!

I got a 98 in my sewing class in Home Economics, which would’ve been a 100 if I had not misread a question on the final exam. I was so upset with myself!

I enjoy photography and writing. Our family almost always makes the Christmas gifts that we exchange to family and friends. I’ve written a Christmas booklet about the significance of magi’s gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh that we gave copies of one year.

Some of the crafting projects I’ve delved into have been quilting, compiling cookbooks, making homemade soaps and bath salts, memory books, jellies, beading, decoupage, cake decorating, candy making, and handmade greeting cards, candle wicking, cross stitch, polymer clay beads, beading animals & purses, bookmarks, paper making, decoupage, photography, mixed media projects, writing & creating 'stuff' out I just dreamed up.

I’ve enjoyed creating tasty meals since I was 9. I'm one of those cooks that can't give you an exact recipe cos I cook by sight & smell, rarely measuring ingredients except for baking breads & cookies. I’ve been a vegetarian since I married in 1990, which required a bit of experimentation to find edible dishes that I'd actually eat since I'm a rather picky eater.

I love playing Scrabble, Pictionary, and Cranium! Brain games please! I'm currently addicted to QQ Games from AIM.

I’m been happily married for 17 yeas, and have 2 near perfect boys, and tons of 'adopted' children that I get to play auntie to. We’ve lived in Charlotte since 1994 and love it here! Minus the taxes & political hot air, it's one of the best cities to live in.

Creativily Yours,
Dione
