Your Oaxaca Cultural Navigator, Norma Hawthorne, is a fiber and jewelry artist, textile collector, and administrator at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also spends part of the year in the rug weaving village of Teotitlan del Valle, where she offers weaving and natural dyeing workshops, and tours to archeological sites and crafts villages in collaboration with the Chavez Santiago Family of weavers. The family has exhibited widely in U.S. museums, universities and art galleries, and their work is in private and museum collections, including the Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame.
