Welcome to my Etsy shop.

VR Studio at Etsy is where I have fun experimenting with all sorts of subjects and styles. I primarily work in watercolor and colored pencil, but also enjoy drawing with a graphite pencil and pen-and-ink. I teach watercolor at a community center and in my home studio. I love teaching and am motivated and inspired by my students.

Watercolor Painting

I fell in love with watercolor as soon as we were introduced, about ten years ago. This medium captures light and luminance in a way that fascinates me. I begin with a pale under painting and then glaze over with several layers and colors, allowing the blending of colors on the paper.

Colored Pencil

Colored pencil is applied to paper in many layers (10-20) using tiny strokes and a light touch. As the layers build up, colors are blended and a richness of color and depth is achieved. Also considered colored pencil are the water-soluble pencils. Many of my colored pencil pieces begin with an under painting using watercolor pencil.

Materials

To ensure that my artwork will look its best for many years to come, I use only artist-grade pigments that have a high lightfast rating, whether in watercolor paint or colored pencil. Watercolor paintings are on Arches watercolor paper, and colored pencil is drawn on acid-free printmaking papers or sanded pastel papers.
