Semper Augustus is the name of a tulip that put Holland in a frenzy in the 1600s. Bulbs were rare and could be sold for the price of a house. The tulip flashed red against the conservative and repressed Dutch culture. This particular tulip was white with sharp flashes of deep red, which, I'm sure, could have made you blush at the time.
