I am on a journey... without a map!
I create with many mediums, experiment with ideas.
I believe that the process of creating is not only
important, but a necessary part of learning who I am,
and why I am.
For me personally, being creative is
a learning experience that never ends,
always teaches.
Some days I am open to the learning!

Back in the fields and flowers...

D.M.Rice
Born and brought up in a small town in Vermont.
She walked to school each day, and enjoyed the beauty of nature along the way.
Sometimes walking through her Uncle Bert's field, she would slow her pace, and pick flowers...
(which meant being late for school!)

Little did she realize at 7 years of age... that she was honing her love of nature!
Exploring and roaming the pastures across the creek where the buttercups grew...
she was absorbing her future creative inspirations!

Uncle Russ walked the woods, and ocean beaches with her throughout her young life, into adulthood.
He taught her to respect nature, and receive the gifts that mother nature gave... with a camera in hand.He brought her to the NYC at 7 years old, and visited Met Museum of Art! What an awesome trip for a 7 year old!!!

Her mom was a seamstress... always perfecting stitches and adding decorative pearls onto dresses
for the Bennington College gals.
It was this experience that taught Debi to appreciate the textures of many fabrics, and the crinkle of pattern paper!

Debi spent many hours with her Dad, in his barbershop... and learned to "talk among friends".
He made her smile constantly with the stories he told!
These stories reside in her mind, and always add a special love for people, animals... life!
This adds to her work; and creates a peacefulness to her inner spirit.

She married her husband at just 20.
They spread their wings, and traveled "away"... as her mom said.
( It was just a few hours drive, but they were now independent! )
Debi spent her early married life bringing up two fantastic kids...
enjoying sports, and "gathering wood for the winter" on summer days.
She worked at school with special education kids for years... as her own children grew.
This allowed her to be home after school hours, and be there for her family.
Her children are now grown, and finding their own paths to the meaning of life.
Their journeys are a constant learning experience for Debi. It is a wonderful thing, this circle of life!

Because of her husband's love and steady, caring personality, and especially his patience with her creative messiness,
and because of her children's amazing points of view on life and humanity,
she is enjoying the journey she is now taking.
Photography, and painting is not only her daily work, but her daily play!
Her journey is now including mixed media collage, abstracts, and small works of art.
She plans to expand her creativity, and work in oils, and larger series works, in the future.
This journey is into the unknown creative world, that she dreamed of as a child.
