Bio

Thank you for your interest in my site.

My name is Sarah Dressler; I’ve been drawing, painting and making things since I was a small child. While a student at the University of the Arts (20 years ago) I dabbled in many areas of the visual arts, but my BFA is in Crafts with a focus in metals and jewelry.

A life long fascination with the mystique of the Middle Ages and Renaissance led me to eventually discover the Society for Creative Anachronism. Within the SCA I have learned the skills of the medieval scribe (calligraphy and illumination) and developed a deeper appreciation for the arts of those bygone days.

About 6 years ago, after my daughter fell in love with a cloth fairy doll a friend was given, I decided I’d try making one for her. I started with simple tube shaped limbs but have grown in my doll making skills and now design many types of dolls, from angels to trolls. Every doll is a one of a kind creation, using a variety of fabrics, yarns and other materials. I make my own patterns drawing inspiration from many sources: mythologies, history, fiction, nature, the fae of many world cultures and of course my 2 children.

Six of my dolls made an appearance in the Summer 2006 issue of Art Doll Quarterly!

Recently, I have started working on some mixed media collages, and have begun to reawaken the dormant jeweler in my head, heart and hands.

Here, on Etsy, I am finally beginning to draw these many areas of my life together. As I open my shop I am starting with my fantasy dolls and jewelry. In the days and weeks to come I hope to add illuminated miniatures, calligraphy, and mixed media pieces.

I live in a nonsmoking home, with my husband of 15 years our 2 wonderful children, 2 hermit crabs and a bunny. As of the Spring of 2009 I moved all of my art supplies and projects into a stand alone studio! My family may actually be able to see the dining room table again!

I am happy to say that I am on the FAEteam, the DE Street team and the ADO Team (Art Dolls Only) here on Etsy!

Thank you for taking time to read my bio, I hope you enjoy my site. If you are still interested in me or more of my work I now have a blog feel free to pop over and visit.
