After briefly attending college to study music, and working in retail and as a print model, Ruth Welter found her true passion and life calling as an artist. Highly self disciplined, she paints prolifically five days a week, “whether she feels like it or not.”
Ruth began painting in 2000, and possessing a keen business sense, by 2002 she was selling her original paintings online from her own website, Artful Creations, www.artfulcreations.biz, which lead to her work being purchased by customers from all across the U.S., as well as Belgium, Italy, Canada, Korea, and Britain. In 2007, her art was accepted for publication in a book.
Florals are Ruth’s specialty, including colorful watercolors and exquisite eggshell art, as she enjoys working with different painting techniques on a variety of surfaces such as canvas, tiles, wine glasses, jewelry boxes, old ceiling tins, and rustic windows, to name a few. Her own private award-winning garden, and the botanicals she observes during her travels, are what inspire her to always notice the beauty around her, and later capture that beauty in her art.
Predominantly self-taught, Ruth studied from artist Joan Bowden and attended a painting seminar from Ros Stallcup, well known artist and author of the www.GransGarden.com book series.
“Painting ideas come to me all the time, at all hours of the day and night, in the funniest places sometimes. Some of these ideas actually turn into paintings, some of them get put on the back burner of my mind, and other times they fizzle and turn out to be nothing, but ideas always come into my mind, regardless.”
Teaching “make it and take it” art classes at several libraries in New York has also been a passion of Ruth’s because “It really gives students a lot of joy to come to the class with nothing and take home a project they created in just a few hours.” She has also taught private lessons in a student’s own home.
Committed to using only non-toxic paints, Ruth paints from her light filled sunroom in West Point, NY, where she is surrounded by bookcases of paints, books, and “other fun art stuff” to keep her inspired.
Chris Eberle, Ruth’s husband of over 20 years, is her business partner. “I could never do what I do without Chris’ help. He is the person I run my ideas past, and he built my entire website from scratch. He also does all my packaging and shipping for me, cuts wood, mats and frames--you name it. He’s really amazing!” She is also “assisted” by her three dogs, Dudley, Willow, and Orchid.
Ruth’s latest creative art endeavor is her blog, www.artful-creations.blogspot.com where she shows her beloved blog readers from all over the world the numerous processes and techniques she uses to create her art.
